Reading the Word Together

I hope you are having a fantastic start to your week. I sat down this morning and spent time reading Joshua 1:1-9 from our September reading plan. Here are a few things I picked up using the Discover Bible Method: What this text says about God: 1) God is the one leading our journey and he will equip and empower those he calls to lead. 2) God is faithful and will do what he promises, no matter our mistakes, rebellion or insecurities. 3) God is always with us and will never forsake us. 4) God knows when we are struggling to trust and he will encourages us. Three times in these nine verses God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous (v 6,7&9). He knew Joshua was struggling to take on the leadership role. What the text says to me about Humanity: 1) We have a God who is leading our lives. 2) We need to trust and obey what God is saying. 3) We need to meditate on his word to understand and know his direction and purpose. These are just a few of my reflections. I hope you are finding some great time in God's word today.

A few things to remember as we go Deeper into the Word of the Lord this month: 1) Plan a time each day to read the scripture 2) Make a family time(at least once a week) and use the SOAP or DBM to talk about the word with your family. 3) Spend time praying and asking the Holy Spirit to lead you in the truth of God's Word 4) Don't make it legalistic but relational. Another words, don't feel you have to read, but ask God to give you a heart that longs to spend time with him in his word. Pray that you will get excited about spending time in the scripture. 5) Come along next Sunday night as Mark will be teaching some practical tips around reading and studying The Word of the Lord. 6) And of course, tell someone about what you are learning from God's word. Bless ya, Pastor Brent
