Making Room For Jesus

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Luke 2:7

This morning I was challenged to look into my life and see how much space I am allowing for Jesus. I know the right answer would be all of my life, but I quickly found that it wasn't as easy as saying those words. As I allow God to walk me through my every day life, he very gently points out places I have closed the door on Jesus. No, I would never do that intentionally, but due to various circumstances I find myself saying I have no room for you right now Jesus.

Thinking back to the birth of Jesus, I often think about the inn keeper who turned Jesus away. Now, I know he didn't really turn Jesus away. He saw a pregnant woman and for whatever reason he sent her to the stables. I wonder what his life would have been like if he had taken Mary in? How would he have felt being part of the Savior's birth. Yet, due to occupancy codes, he felt the need to say no.

How about you, have you filled your life so full that you are saying no to Jesus because you have no room? Is there something or someone who is occupying space in your life that should be reserved for God?

As I asked those questions this morning, God very graciously showed me a few things that I could do to open space for his presences. I invite you to do the same thing. I encourage you to not let this busy time of year replace the very presence of the one we celebrate.

Imagine, with me, how great our lives are when we let Jesus in. He covers us with Indescribable Love, he surrounds us with Incredible Peace, he fills us with Immeasurable Joy. Let's be sure to make room for Jesus and all he offers us this Christmas.
